This is a photo of my Mom. It was taken at a barbeque at my sister Donna's house in Connecticut last June. This was one of the BBQs that we had while my niece and nephew were visiting from Arizona. This was also the day that my nephew, Jake, rescued the toad from the swimming pool. (You remember that photo, don't you?) This photo is just the perfect photo of my Mom because it reminds me of the essence of who she is and the role she plays in our family's life. She is the Matriarch, she is a solid rock and the foundation of our family. She is the cohesiveness that holds us all together. She is the voice of reason when there is only chaos. She was a sister, daughter, wife, niece, and auntie. She is a Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma. She is a Registered Nurse, and the caring angel that helps heal the smallest sick and injured patients that come through the Pediatrics Unit of Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn in New York City. This is my Mom!

I hope you enjoyed my story and my photo layout.

I created the layout from the "Bee Mine" Scrapbooking Kit which was a collaborative kit put together by the designers at the Digital Arts Cafe. Specific designers are as follows: Scrappyshannon, Brandi, Karyn, Rhondogg, Vivayne, RachaelH, and Darhena. I actually got this particular kit free either with a purchase, or in response to a challenge. I can't remember precisely which one, though. I do really love the happy colors in this kit.

Freebie Quick Page with a March Color Palette

Hi All!

I designed a Quick Page in response to a challenge put out by one of my favorite Digital Scrap Booking Sites: The Digital Arts Cafe puts a color challenge in their forum every month and this is the first time I've participated. They've instituted a point system and the more you create, the more points you accumulate. You can then redeem your points for some really cool digital merchandise. You can check the Digital Arts Cafe out @ http://www.digitalarts-cafe.com

All of the challenges are listed in their forum @ http://www.digitalarts-cafe.com/forum/

All you have to do is join the forum (for free) and you'll be on your way!

To create the background layer, I used a PhotoShop brush from Graphic-Illustrations (http://www.graphics-illustrations.com) to create a transparency to put over the color palette for the background. I also used the same brush to decorate the pink frame, except, this time I put a little color on the floral brush.

Without further ado, here is what your freebie will look like:

You can download a 12 by 12 inch PNG version of this Quick Page in a Zipped folder at my 4-Shared Account @ http://www.4shared.com/file/91251890/a873105/DAC_March_Color_Challenge_Original_QP.html

I hope you like it! Happy Creating! Hugs, Julie

A Free Photoshop Course

Creative Tech is offering a Free Photoshop Course! The first class was on February 26th and was a huge success. I attended the Webinar and can tell you first hand that the class was well thought out, well run, and contained valuable information for both the beginner and the experienced Photoshop user. Week one covered the basics: Introduction, Interface, and Tool Shortcuts.

There were over a thousand attendees for the first session of this ten week course and there are over two thousand enrolled in the course to date. These classes are open to enrollments from anywhere in the world and might be just the thing you're looking for to enhance those digital skills.

Week Two: Layers

A solid understanding of layers is a crucial foundation for mastering most other advanced Photoshop techniques. This is a fun and important topic.

You can use the following link to go to Creative Tech to sign up for the course. If you can't click straight through from this link, copy or cut and paste the link to your web browser and you should arrive at the sign up location http://creativetechs.com/tipsblog/free-10-week-photoshop-course/
